Epigallocatechin Gallate (EGCG), which is also known under the name epigallocatechin 3-gallate, is the ester of catechin, gallic acid and epigallocatechin. It is found in tea and is believed to be one of the most important antioxidants today. Epigallocatechin 3-gallate is currently investigated for the inhibitory effects on the life cycle of HIV-1 virus, the human immunodeficiency virus type 1, which causes AIDS. Although EGCG has shown significant benefits in laboratory studies, the clinical trials on humans have not been conducted yet. The antioxidant qualities of EGCG and the associated reduction of free radicals have made epigallocatechin 3-gallate a very popular supplement, especially with the body building and athletic communities. It is furthermore suggested that EGCG has therapeutic potential with several forms of cancer and in setting of liver fibrosis.

Gelatin is a translucent, colourless, brittle, nearly tasteless solid substance, extracted from the collagen inside animals' connective tissue. Gymnema Sylvestre is native to India, predominantly in tropical forests of India. This herb has traditionally been used in the Indian eclectic alternative medical system as the naturopathic treatment for diabetes. The active ingredients or bioactive constituents are a group of gymnemic acids, which have antidiabetic and anti-inflammatory as well as antisweetener properties. If used for a while, gymnema sylvestre, or rather the gymnemic acids, have the effect of reducing the blood sugar level. These glycosides are found in an extract of the leaves and it seems that the acids have a similar structure to saccharose. Besides the gymnemic acids, the plant contains also saponins, quercitol, stigmasterol and also some amino acid derivatives, namely trimethylamine, betaine and choline. When the leaves of gymnema sylvestre are chewed, you temporarily lose the ability to taste sugar.
Hoodia Gordonii grows in Namibia and South Africa naturally. It is a leafless spiny plant useful for medicinal purposes. These flowers are pollinated by flies mainly as they smell identical to rotten meat. Hoodia is known long by indigenous population and is infrequently used for treating small infections and indigestion. This is used to suppress appetite during long hunting trips such as Kalahari Desert that interests more tourists.
Hoodia Gordonii was prominent for it appetite suppressing effect and hence was collaborated with Pfizer, a pharmaceutical company to deal with obesity. However, it was stopped as it is stated to have indications of effects on liver. Hoodia Gordonii is wild harvested by individuals as well as by few companies that are granted license. However, there is no evidence of Hoodia working in humans as appetite suppressant. Due to the lack of clarity and fear of breaking down of liver, it is not recommended for obesity.
